An excellent groundcover for full sun areas, the Winecup is very drought tolerant (with a deep taproot, making it difficult to relocate). It is also known by the name Purple Poppymallow. It's purple blooms begin in early spring and extend until fall, with a pause during dry spells in summer unless given a little supplemental water. It prefers well-draining soil, so avoid planting it in a low area where water pools after rain. It's foliage remains evergreen during winter, and it's dormant season is in the peak of summer. Another reason to add Winecup to your garden? It's a host plant of the Gray Hairstreak butterfly (Strymon melinus), common in North Texas. Learn more at Native Plant Society and Native Gardeners.
