A Texas SmartScape plant with very low water needs, Powis Castle is a hybrid introduced in 1972 from the National Trusts’ Powis Castle in Wales. Also called wormwood or mugwort, it is a host plant for two DFW butterflies: the Painted Lady and American Lady.
Finely textured, silvery-grey, aromatic foliage reflects the light under a full moon. If planting in heavy clay, add crushed granite or compost for better drainage. Plant it on an elevated area in the landscape, where water will flow away and not pool over winter and rot the roots. Great companion for flowers that are purple and yellow.
