Blue-Eyed Grass is a wild, native plant that grows across many parts of the US and Canada (including here in Texas). Moody Blues is a cultivar meaning it was bred for an improved blue flower. Although it grows just 18" tall it's not really a grass....it's actually a small Iris. It's great for wet soils in full or morning sun. After its first wave of blooms, trim it back to encourage more blooms. Birds will visit to eat its seeds, and the flowers attract butterflies. Every other year, you can dig and divide the plant from the root. For a mass planting, use a 2' spacing and over time it will fill in (20 plants/80 SF). Learn more about the wild plant at Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center and the Moody Blues (what we offer) at Native Gardeners.
