Great at attracting hummingbirds, with over 150 days of bright red/pink blooms from spring through fall. It is native to well-draining soils west of I-35, from Austin to Big Bend. If growing in clay soil, be sure and plant only on a slope, where water will wash away from the roots, and amend the soil with crushed granite. Can also be grown in a pot, doing well with full sun exposure. Thick leaves and stems that crawl along the ground almost give the plant the appearance of a sedum, making it a good choice for a rock garden.
