A long-blooming annual that will re-seed and return next year, Lemon Beebalm offers over 150 days of blooms from early summer through fall. Late summer rain, or extra irrigation, helps it bloom into early fall. The blooms are quite iconic: a stack of 3-5 layers of blooms that whirl around the plant stem providing lots of appeal for bees, butterflies, and hummingbirds to visit the garden. It is also a host plant of the Spicebush Swallowtail, which is less commonly seen in North Texas compared to its cousin, the Eastern Tiger Swallowtail. After frost, trim back all the dead stems and shake off the seeds so it will return next spring. Learn more at Native Plant Society and Native Gardeners.
