Grow Black Dalea in your garden because it's the host plant for the Reakirt’s Blue butterfly (Echinargus isola) which can be seen all across North Texas. With purple/pink blooms in late summer, it's a native plant in well-draining soils in areas west of Waco but can thrive in North Texas. If growing in heavy clay soil, be sure to amend with crushed granite, plant in a high area in the garden where water drains away, or grow it in a pot. It's delicate foliage is quite unique, compared to many other native plants that thrive in North Texas. Learn more at Native Gardeners and Native Plant Society.
