With lavender flowers that bloom long through the summer, attracting many small pollinating insects, Russian Sage is native to central Asia (Tibet, Afghanistan, Pakistan) where it thrives during hot, dry summers and cold winters.
In fall after the frost, prune it to back to a 12” base for a bushier appearance next spring. A common plant used in municipal highway median landscaping for its tolerance of radiant heat from paved surfaces. Formerly classified scientifically as P. atriplicifolia (yes scientists make mistakes sometimes!). Learn more at Native Gardeners.
