Struggling with your lawn in shade? Try Lyreleaf Sage. It makes an excellent groundcover in shade or Morning Sun locations. Flower blooms reach 2' tall from a base of evergreen leaves (similar to the non-native Ajuga) that may turn a lovely purple color in fall/winter. A very hardy plant, it can even be mowed and walked on. For areas under trees where grass won't grow for lack of light, consider planting Lyreleaf Sage instead of resodding. Another benefit is the nectar it provides for native bees, which are in decline and need our help providing more habitat.
