The busy gardener’s best friend. This short groundcover thrives almost anywhere, from harsh, dry full sun to part shade in moist soil, offering little white flowers from March to November that are a favorite for skipper butterflies. It puts out roots along its stem nodes, making it easy to grow more plants by placing a rock to keep the stem on bare soil for 2 weeks and then snipping the new plant.
Plant it where you don’t want sunlight to fall on bare soil (where weeds might grow). A favorite host plant of three butterflies: the Phaon Crescentspot, Buckeye, and White Peacock. Be sure to avoid spraying any chemicals near this plant to avoid harming the caterpillars. Learn more at Native Plant Society, Master Gardeners, and Nativo Gardens.
