In its native habitat (near Austin, in the Edwards Plateau), Cedar Sage grows under the shade of ashe juniper trees in well-draining soil. In DFW's Blackland Prairie clay soil, it also does well in part shade, best with morning sun and protection from harsh afternoon light. It's fuzzy leaves are great for young children as a sensory plant. It will die back in winter and return in spring from the root. It also casts seed prolifically nearby to give you many more free volunteer plants nearby. Plant two and give them space to fill in for a mass planting by seed.
